No Shortage of Fizzy Drinks Here at Commercial Vending Services!
We are pleased to report that despite the hottest summer on record in England, and a Europe-wide shortage of CO2, we were able to maintain normal supplies of fizzy drinks to our vending customers this summer.
The shortage of CO2 started to affect the production of carbonated drinks in June when, according to the Grocer magazine, there were a number of technical issues at the ammonia and bioethanol plants in Europe, which are important sources of the gas. With only one major CO2 plant in the UK, this country was the hardest hit.
The situation was aggravated by the exceptionally high summer temperatures, with the BBC reporting that 2018 was the joint hottest year in the UK as a whole, and the hottest ever for England.
In July, MySupermarket, the price comparison website, said that the number of times Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s was out of Pepsi Max was up 20{afdf378c22ea5ce946e5b0a7109e8837c9811d2ff635343a88b4f13ece98f145} since mid-June. Prices of carbonated drinks in supermarkets had also increased by 8{afdf378c22ea5ce946e5b0a7109e8837c9811d2ff635343a88b4f13ece98f145} between June and July due to the shortage.
